There is a bit of a sheen as well as a strength to the cloth that makes it seem like at least some of the thread might be silk

eying those fish and looking about ready to pounce

The glass shows a (to my eye) wonderful pattern of surface scratching over the green (but not much the cream) squares

Then three X's painted across the reverse side (making me think it may have been Xacto blades it held) and yellow squares with green outlines on the short ends. Quite a special feeling one for holding knives or razor
